Bear Hug Bed & Breakfast | Welcome
A renovated Victorian style home that pre-dates Canadian Confederation and the American Civil War, 602 Main Street is one of Port Dover’s most storied historical addresses.
Built circa 1855 by Walker Powell, son of Israel Powell, a local shipbuilder and one of Port Dover’s founding fathers, this charming Victorian-style building has been home to some of Port Dover’s leading families for 160 years. It has also seen duty as a medical clinic, a rooming house and, not surprisingly given it’s charm, as one of the area’s most sought after bed & breakfast establishments. There can be little doubt however that the building’s most joyous history traces to the years it served as ‘Miss John’s Birthing House’. We’d like to think that many happy souls began their life journeys right within these walls.
